Successors of the Imperii Draconi
General
There are several countries that see themselves as successors to the ancient Imperii Draconi, or at least where a cultural elite does.
Translation Imperii
The empire had a kind of succession regulation, the Translatio Imperii, which regulated the extent to which power could be passed on in a sustainable manner. However, on the basis of this regulation alone, none of the countries can be considered a complete successor.
Quanar's Claim
Quanar emerged as a city before the Old Empire and voluntarily integrated into the empire early on. The city certainly served as a bridgehead for the ideas of common coexistence that came to Aerznia from Thôsco.
During the fall of the empire, Quanar was declared capital for a short time by the last two Magotho Emrag and Jumai. The last Reichstag was also held here.
Since nothing else was ever declared, Quanar considers itself the clear successor of Imperii Draconi. Quanar retained its free and liberal constitution and celebrates cultural diversity.
Gesoria's Claim
Gesoria became a refuge for the Old Ones, Dragons and politically persecuted during the fall of the Old Empire.
Like Quanar, the country has preserved its basic liberal order. However, Gesoria is exceedingly isolationist and has little to do culturally with the Old Empire. The diversity of species is, however, a common feature that is less pronounced in Quanar.
Thôsco's Claim
Thôsco was in some respects the cultural model for the Imperii Draconi. Humans, Dragons and Old Ones lived together here peacefully and for mutual benefit for the first time.
The fall of the Old Empire touched this land comparatively little, so the communities simply continued to govern themselves, ensuring continuity. From the point of view of many Thôscans, the Imperii Draconi never perished here.
Aerznia's Claim
Aerznia, at the time of the Iron Gate Saga, owns much of the former ancestral lands of the Old Empire.
However, only vague memories of this empire still exist. The existence of magic, Old Ones or Dragons has been completely lost in many places.
