The First Account of Northern Wolves in the Imperii Draconi
General
The original document of the First Account of Northern Wolves in the Imperii Draconi has not been preserved. Only one copy remains, now stored by the Conclave of Owls in Templar.
Bibliographical Information
The author of the original called themself "Messenger Lor" and was apparently a servant of the Free School of Ádron. What became of the original document is not known. The copy has been in the possession of the Conclave of Owls in Templar since the early days of the conclave.
It is not known who the author of the preserved copy was and when exactly it was created. A cursory examination reveals the elaborate calligraphic work on the parchment. Both margins are decorated with identical, stylized depictions of plants in brown tones, while the upper center is dominated by a depiction, presumably of a male Human. At the top, part of the document is smoothly torn off, so that the face is no longer recognizable. The reason for this is unclear.
The text itself is written in an antiquated Gesorian encoding system which was the standard during the first hundred years of the Conclave.
The document is listed as "apýrts" in the library.
The Text
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I wish to bring to your attention an intriguing matter that has recently come to my notice. It has come to my attention that in the region near the mouth of the Sun Stream, there exist beings of formidable intellect who do not belong to any known species—neither Humans, Kehdari, Old Ones, Orcs, nor Dragons. Rather, it is my assumption that they are the Wolves of the north, given reports of their wolf-like faces and fur-covered bodies.
As a reminder, the Wolves of the north are creatures we are familiar with from expeditions originating from Bantubwe. Accounts of them reached us in Ádron through exchanges conducted decades ago. These beings are deeply connected to nature, with some possessing mastery over magic, craftsmanship, and trade among their kind. They hold beliefs in higher powers, coupled with impressive strength, speed, and acute senses. However, they have never ventured southward to our lands.
Rumors suggest that they were once more widespread in the north than they are today, with ancient monuments beyond the southern falls supposedly built in their image. Regrettably, such considerations are not acknowledged in the regions concerned.
Recently, while preparing to embark in a small town near the mouth of the Great Stream of the South on a voyage to Darac, I was approached by local peasants. They relayed to me the aforementioned rumors, passed down from their kin. Seeking an official of the Empire to address their concerns, they mistook me for one. They expressed fears that their kind might be endangered by unfamiliar entities in distant regions.
Therefore, I appeal to you, in solidarity with these righteous individuals, to dispatch Dragons and envoys to investigate this matter. I am aware that there may be a reluctance to heed the requests of farmers from remote regions seeking protection. Nevertheless, the pursuit of knowledge alone should justify an inquiry into this matter.
Respectfully,
Messenger Lor
