The Lochäa Crisis was ultimately triggered by the Wars for the North, a series of conflicts that exposed the vulnerabilities of the Old Empire under Kaiser Tilân III.. The Empire failed to defend its northern borders against invading northern tribes, which were themselves fleeing the internal wars among the northern Old Ones. This failure left the Empire’s northern provinces, including Brônia and Herse, exposed and increasingly unstable, which - in turn - sparked discord within Lochäa.

Secessionist Movements

Against this backdrop of instability, Lochäa faced growing secessionist pressures. The threat of Lochäa breaking away from the Empire and severing ties with the northern provinces became increasingly real. The Dominion Status agreements, negotiated by the diplomat Nideon Thavi, had bound Brônia and Herse to the Empire. However, Lochäan pushes for independence threatened to jeopardize these arrangements.

Diplomatic Efforts

In the midst of the crisis, the diplomatic efforts were led not by Nideon Thavi, but by his rival, Ingqondo Dia. Despite their enmity, Thavi respected Dia’s diplomatic skills.
