General

Serpa is the capital of the Akrehdei.

Climate

Serpa is located in the middle of the Iíbor's arctic region.

Topography

The whole urban area of Serpa is rocky and uneven. Often buildings were constructed around existing rock formations or they were integrated into the architecture, for example by hollowing them out.

Due to its location in the mountains, the old town is clearly above the lower town.

Traits

Serpa is divided into two parts, the old town, which consists of tunnels and rooms in the mountain, and the newer, much larger lower town at the foot of the mountain.

The architecture of the Akrehdei is strongly influenced by ancient Kehdei, the Stormlands, and also Aerznian architecture.

The Akrehdei always build from below the surface upwards, which means that most of their settlements lie below the surface. Buildings above ground serve mainly representative purposes or complement the substructure, reflecting the architectural philosophy of the ancient Kehdei. Compact stone buildings are the rule and the trapezoid is a prominent shape. Often buildings are constructed on a mirror axis so that the building visible on the surface is a reflection of the underground structure.

Old Town

Psychologically, the underground is the safest place for Akrehdei. Therefore, the first settlement in the area of today's Serpa was located mainly within the adjacent mountains, starting with simple tunnels and caves, which then grew more elaborate in design and size. When the space was no longer sufficient for the growing population, the more detailed settlement of the surrounding area began.

Newer Town

Serpa today consists mainly of the newer part of the city at the foot of the mountains. Different architectural styles developed until, above all, the mirrored construction style prevailed. Over time, the city also received representative buildings and an outer wall.

Landmarks

The Senate

The senate was likely built on the remains of a public square or center for transit traffic. Over the centuries, the dome structure was repeatedly expanded and strengthened, making it one of the most outstanding above-ground structures in the city. The Senate houses, among other things, the Kael'vilu, the throne of the Praetor.

History

Serpa originated as a refuge for the Akrehdei between 5680 and 5700 A.I.D.. Since then, the entire Akrehdei population has lived in this one city and, despite the harsh living conditions, considers it the sacred center of their exile.
