General

Following the Lochäa Crisis, the Old Empire faced a severe new challenge triggered by an epidemic from Mesócrata around 5661 A.I.D., which also significantly impacted Phoeica. This period of turmoil saw a rebellion in Mesócrata starting in 5667 A.I.D., which further destabilized the region and the Empire as a whole.

History

The Epidemic and Rebellion

The epidemic that emerged from Mesócrata had a particularly devastating impact on Phoeica, exacerbating existing regional instability. In 5667 A.I.D., Mesócrata, overwhelmed by the epidemic and internal strife, plunged into rebellion. The rebellion sacrificed the advanced infrastructure that had been built through cooperation with neighboring estates, leading to the breakdown of regional stability.

As the rebellion consumed Mesócrata from within, the region requested reinstatement into the Empire after three years of chaos. This request was met with resistance. The resurgence of old conflicts between human factions, which had previously been contained, erupted once more, further aggravating the situation.

Impact on the Empire

The burdens of ongoing warfare, mass migrations, the refugee crisis, and the epidemic compounded by the passive behavior of the Magotho, contributed to the Empire's fragmentation. The Old Empire was severely weakened, facing external threats from adversaries such as Flarrock, who now sought to capitalize on the Empire's weakened state. This period of turmoil raised fundamental questions about the Empire’s self-image and its ability to maintain its power and cohesion.

Consequences

Despite the severe challenges, efforts to consolidate and stabilize the Empire were significant. Nideon Thavi, along with Chrioseptico, played a crucial role in addressing the crisis. Their leadership and commitment to humanist and enlightened policies were pivotal in managing the internal strife and mitigating the impact of the epidemic and rebellion.

Thavi and Chrioseptico’s efforts led to some degree of success in stabilizing the Empire. Their work to implement reforms and maintain progressive policies helped restore a measure of order and continuity in the face of the severe pressures the Empire was experiencing.
