The Shûvern of Quaräa

General

The Shûvern [ʃnfɛn] of Quaräa was a wyrm and an Old One. It lived near the city of Quanar, at the time of the Old Empire. It was killed by Iluvîn Elpharac in the year 5721 A.I.D..

Surfacing

"Shûvern" at that time was a term for living beings that had been corrupted by the unsustainable use of magic or by accidents and had become dark beings. This particular one was originally a Wyrm that had crossed over with the Dragons from their original world into this one. Unlike its fellows, however, this one did not die after entering a new environment, but was changed by the use of magic and thus saved.

It is unclear who committed this presumed act of mercy. In any case, the Wyrm appeared in Quanar around 5710 A.I.D. and caused some unrest, tearing livestock and killing people, as it could spit acid. Its resistance had been greatly increased by the influence of magic.

It was believed at the time that the Wyrm appeared whenever his name was spoken aloud, though this is not certain.

Death

The later governor of Quanar, Iluvîn Elpharac killed the wyrm in the year 5721 A.I.D.. It was this act that would lead him to rule in Quanar.

"Shûvern" went from being a general term to the name of this creature over the centuries after it was killed.
