Nideon Thavi [nɪde:otaɪ] was a prominent diplomat during the late Old Empire. He is well-known for his role in negotiating the Dominion treaties, as well as his involvement in both the Lochäa Crisis and the Mesócrata Crisis.

Appearance

Nideon was a half-Dragon with a human form. He had a medium complexion, with short black hair. His face was narrow, characterized by pronounced features.

Nideon was recognized for his warm demeanor and sharp wit, often employing sarcasm in his interactions. His quick humor made him a memorable figure in diplomatic circles.

Life

Nideon was born in Košbrôn in 5603 A.I.D. The specifics of his birth are unknown, but as a half-Dragon, he likely enjoyed a lifespan longer than that of an average Human. He was a descendant of the Brônian Thavi clan, a small family primarily composed of Humans. His exact date of death remains uncertain, as he vanished around the time of the Scarlet Night.

At the age of 21, Nideon entered the diplomatic service of the Imperii Draconi. He left the Lower North for Quanar, where he began his training. Initially perceived as a provincial novice due to the scarcity of diplomats from his region, Nideon soon distinguished himself through missions in Ýuufver and Crovia.

Fast Career

Nideon quickly gained prominence by securing a neutrality pact with Crovia against Flarrock, preventing the country from being used as a strategic base.

The Wars for the North

When the Wars for the North erupted in 5638 A.I.D., Nideon was recalled from Ýuufver and sent with a delegation to the Dróžt. Upon the death of the delegation’s leader during the journey, Nideon assumed command. His mission was to persuade local powers to maintain neutrality, which he accomplished with considerable difficulty.

In 5639 A.I.D., he and his delegation were forced to flee from Lłóđamaar due to an attack by advancing hordes. By the turn of the year 5640 A.I.D., he reached the Fallwacht, where he first met his future ally Chrioseptico. Here, Nideon was dismayed to learn of the army’s poor condition and shared Chrioseptico’s frustration, openly criticizing the central government in Dracominor. He attempted several times to negotiate with the advancing hordes, but each effort failed. Nideon anticipated that the local estates felt betrayed by the Empire, a sentiment that could lead to future tensions.

In haste, Nideon traveled to Dracominor to meet with Emperor Tilân. After some negotiation, he secured permission for a reconquest. With this authority, he returned to Lochäa.

In 5642 A.I.D., Nideon found the dragon Chrioseptico had assumed command of the local army upon his return, with whom he initiated the reconquest.

Field Experience

Despite his lack of enthusiasm for military affairs, Nideon contributed as an advisor to Chrioseptico and participated in various tasks. Although he respected Chrioseptico as a capable military leader, he often disagreed with the Dragon's radical strategies. Nideon, in contrast, aimed to consider future diplomatic objectives, particularly focusing on the reintegration of Brônia.

The Dominion Treaties

After the reconquest of the Lower and Middle North, Nideon successfully brought the migrating hordes and the imperial estates to the negotiating table. Contrary to Chrioseptico’s belief, Nideon recognized that the migrants could no longer be pushed back into the Upper North and sought a new political order.

Concerned that the Empire might lose many of its supporters due to its prior de facto abandonment of the region, Nideon endeavored to dissuade the local powers from secession. He managed this primarily by addressing the urgent issue of the Northern migrants. Without consulting the Dracominor government, he negotiated with the new peoples, allowing them to settle in the High Grasslands, a previously unoccupied land, and provided the weakened estates with a guarantee of imperial protection with Chrioseptico’s support.

Nideon’s efforts tied the local powers to the Empire and integrated the new peoples into the region. To address the pressure for secession in Herse and Brônia, he negotiated the Dominion treaties, which included a 25-year grace period during which the Empire would aid in rebuilding the regions and forgo tax revenues.

These achievements brought him fame but also earned him criticism and a reputation for stubbornness.

The Lochäa Crisis

In 5653 A.I.D., Nideon became involved in the Lochäa Crisis. He was not the chief negotiator but served as a secondary diplomat to Ingqondo Dia, whom he considered both an adversary and a figure of respect. Together with Dia and Chrioseptico, Nideon attempted to manage the separatist powers in Lochäa, but the efforts were hindered by the pervasive disputes among the imperial estates.

Nideon and his fellow diplomats were constrained when local powers invoked their right to self-governance, only to then engage in internal conflicts. This represented a loophole in the Old Law, which otherwise mandated state peace.

Following this, Nideon traveled to Bantubwe, where he and Chrioseptico grew close. They eventually parted ways, and Nideon spent a year in Kehda before returning to Dracominor. The failure in Lochäa weighed heavily on him.

The Mesócrata Crisis

Nideon Thavi played a crucial role during the turbulent period following the Lochäa Crisis. As a key diplomat, Thavi, along with Chrioseptico, was deeply involved in managing the devastating epidemic and rebellion in Mesócrata. His diplomatic efforts were essential in addressing these challenges and seeking solutions for the reintegration of the troubled region.

During the rebellion in Mesócrata, Thavi was instrumental in navigating the complex dynamics of the region, working to mitigate the impact of internal strife and external threats. His strategic approach and reforms were vital in stabilizing the Empire, as he sought to restore order and continuity amidst the chaos. Disapearance

By the time of the Scarlet Night, Nideon Thavi was already over 300 years old. He remained active as a politician but vanished during the chaos following the destruction of Dracominor. His fate remains unknown.
