General Information

Áváhé is part of a high-fantasy universe open to writers and artists to contribute their ideas. The goal is to bring creative people together and allow them to develop concepts together, relate to each other, and thus build a unique world.

One focus of this project is communication and social exchange. We want to find out what ideas people develop together or how they inspire each other. However, membership in the designated groups does not entail any obligation to actually participate.

The design possibilities are - within the framework of the (natural) laws of the world - very large. From items to characters and events and stories, everything is possible!

And no: You don't have to be a 'professional' to work with us! Áváhé is open to everyone.

Let's start! :D

Background

Áváhé began as a nameless landmass in which the first fantasy novel by its founder Nylo was set. The world was actually too large for the very local plot and remained unused. Nevertheless, he kept working on the setting to pass the time. Over many stages of pondering and passing time, Nylo finally decided to make the ever-expanding map available to creative minds. The experiment is intended to enable others to achieve more in cooperation than they could alone and to develop unique ideas in collaboration.

Current status

There is already plenty of map material available, both an aesthetic map that started it all, and sound climate and cultural maps. Legends and stories are already in the works. In total, there is a period of over 7000 years that can be worked on or gone beyond.

Áváhé has not yet been made accessible to the public. At the moment, access is restricted exclusively to selected people in order to first build up a core group into which later newcomers can easily fit in.

The main source of information is currently the Discord.

Setting: The Iron Gate Saga

Currently, the focus of worldbuilding is on the Iron Gate Saga. This serves primarily to provide orientation. All possible periods in the world can be designed.

Chaos in the Upper North

In 7012 A.I.D., the Dragons of Dracoš in the upper north of Áváhé end a long conflict with the people of Mahr by destroying the Mahr capital Steynmahr. This event unsettles and destabilizes the High Reich of Luyieverian Estates, of which the Mahr is a part. For the emperor and the imperial estates, the security of the empire may be at stake, while the survivors of the destruction - like former nobleman Joath or the monk Admun - try to somehow carry on.

The two half-Dragons Len and Lourem fought in this war at the behest of both their parents. They belong to the Magotho, a once powerful family that ruled over what is known as the Old Empire. The dream of rebuilding this empire and to reassert the glory of their family led the two brothers to Dracoš, but there are many unanswered questions for the two: Why had their parents separated them at birth so that they had not met for much of their lives? How should they proceed now that they know about each other but have different goals in life?

Tensions in the South

In the Middle South, The Aerznian Empire and Quanar face each other. While Quanar is extremely rich and good friends with several regions, the Aerznian Empire relies on its strength to expand further and further. Incidents occur that aggravate the situation and for which both parties blame each other, while it increasingly seems that an invisible force is setting the two against each other. The Aerz-Magister Paunio and his allies in Aerznia try to get to the bottom of the matter, while Quanar and the Queen Vaehra are weakened by internal events.

In the meantime, a complex balance of powers in the deep south, which is disturbed when increasing numbers of Humans begin to migrate in droves from the Deep South. The reasons for this are initially unknown, but increasingly it seems as if they are running away from something.

General information about Áváhé as a landmass

Áváhé is a landmass in this world. Mainly we work with this one. The term 'Áváhé' does not refer to all the landmasses seen in the aesthetic map, but only to the central part, from the strait next to Raufstrom in the north to Yablaveha in the south.

The Áváhé landmass is de facto composed of several continents, but is usually described as one continent.

There are two systems to descirbe general regions: The (newer) King's System and the Old System. Mostly, we use the Old System for orientation.

The Old System

The Old System describes Eroth as the high north, all the Lands from the Northern Strait to the source of the Hess as the upper north, the Great Plains as the middle north, and everything from the mountains at Vogelherd to the Southfall as the lower north. The upper south extends from the Southfall to the Scarlet Heights, the middle south lies in Aerznia to the land of the Free Riverine People, and the lower south forms all the land beyond the Frater, to Yablaveha. The Íibor forms the deep south. Kehda is called the hot east, Mesócrata the old east. The Dróžt, Ýuufver and Flarrock form with Freja the great west.

Time calculation

The time calculation is unified for worldbuilding. All events before the foundation of the ancient Imperii Draconi are indicated with "Before Imperii Draconi" (B.I.D.), all after with "After Imperii Draconi" (A.I.D.).

Species of Áváhés

Ordered by quantity:

  1. Humans (all ethnicities)
  2. Mijani (anthropomorphic felines)
  3. Kehdei (anthropomorphic reptiles)
  4. Dragons (both 'western' and 'eastern' types)
  5. Akrehdei
  6. The Wolves (anthropomorphic wolves)
  7. Old Ones (various magical beings, both intelligent and animal)

Cultures of Áváhés

There are numerous cultures in Áváhé. For an overview, see: Countries, Cultures & Religions.

Additional information

  • Information about the world of Áváhé can be found under "Lore" on the main page, everything from states and regions to cultures and characters.
  • If you want to understand the political Áváhé, the countries and the balance of power on the continent at the time of the Iron Gate Saga, you are advised to read the article on the Imperii Draconi. This ancient empire once spanned most of the known world, and its collapse eventually led to the world we see today. The history of the Magotho is also very instructive in this regard. Be warned of spoilers.

What Can I Contribute?

Áváhé should serve as a basis and inspiration for creative people. Everything in the world is available to become the subject of art in all possible forms. You don't have to be a professional in any way. In principle, you can even start right away.

Think of the project like an MMO - a Massive Multiplayer Online-Game. In these, there may be a prepared story - the canon - however, these games also live on the interaction between players. This is especially so here.

For more information on how to contribute see: Project Concept.

Writing

If you want to write stories about Áváhé, do it. Here you can choose whether you want to follow the canon or create something that does not belong to it or even contradicts canonical information. This is explicitly allowed, as it allows for alternative versions or realities that allow for new ideas.

Painting

Of course, we also welcome contributions in the form of concept art or other graphic art.
